TO THE ELECTORS OF THE TOWN OF AKAROA. n ENTLBMEN,—I shall be glad, if V.H" you desire my services, again to represent you in the Provincial Council. 1 greatly regret that 1 shall tind it quite impossible to wait upon you in person to solicit your votes, as I am unable at present to leave my farm. I shall continue to the best of my ability to support your local interests in every way consistently with the general interests of the province. You will, however, 1 am sure pardon mc for eaying, beca\ise 1 feel it to be true, that my ability to obtain further votes from the Council for yoivr district will mainly depend upon the way in which you will have met the resolution of the Council last year, by which the expenditure of the stuns voted for Akavoa was placed mainly in your own hands. If, instead of frittering those votes away on small works and byo-roaas, yi\u expend them in opening up the main access ffo the Peninsula, I am under the impression there will be no difficulty in obtaining further and sufficient supplies for that work. In the General Government of the Province I shall continue to advocate that prudent and economical administration of the public monies which is o so much the greater importance when the tempt ation to extravagance is so great. The appropriation last session of £50,000 of ihe current income of the province to the Kailway, and the lessening of the public debt to that amount, was a very important step in the right direction. It is a continuation of the policy first proposed by myself, and rejected by the Government, four years ago. I shall advocate a pursuance of the same policy, and I entertain no doubt but that in such case the Pi ail way will be completed without burdening the public resources beyond what they can bear, and you, in common with the rest of the province, will reap the benefits of so great an increase to the- national wealth as the possession of that work will occasion. I have reason to believe that the arrangements made by the Government in pursuance of the votes of the Council respecting the calling in of steamers at Jkaroa are satisfactory to you; but I shall be happy to be informed of your views and wishes on this and every other matter of local importance so long as 1 shall Lrivu the honor to represent you. 1 am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, JAMES EDWARD FITZGERALD ELECTION NOTICE.
