The appropriation of the unpaid portion of the purchase money of the (Vistchurch Town Reserves. The Superintendent did not agree to the paying over to the municipality the proceeds of the Town Reserves, but admits a claim on the Provincial Government for contribution to public works within those reserves, which he considered should be met by annual grants of money from the Provincial chest, a Map of the ('ity of Chrifjtchurch. The Superintendent wLhed for the opinions of the Municipal Council, as to the reserves which it was desirable should !te handed over to them. This question was fully discussed, and ultimately it was deckled to ask for the following reserves, viz. the site of the present Court House; the site reserved for the Mechanic's Institute; the Market Square on the south side of the river, together with the Market Hall, and the Police, and Immigration Barracks ; the Slaughter yard reserves, both to the east and west of the city ; and the (lovermuent Domain. With regard to the last mentioned property, some difference of opinion prevailed as to whether the Superintendent could reasonably be expected to transfer it to the municipality. A resolution vas c.irricd to the following effect: "That Mr. Wilson ai.d Mr. Barnard select two sections of 50 acres each, one <>n the north, and the other on the south side iji the promised by the Provincial Government, for the purposes of Sect. 39, of the Ordinance" which states that the Council may from time to time provide places for rubbish vtc, to be collected under the, authority of the Ordinance. The Council then adjourned till Monday next.
