PROVINCIAL COUNCIL EXTENSION BILL.
1 and 2 Repeals former Ordinances, and Proclamations. 3. Thc Province of Canterbury for the election for the Superintendent and the Members of the Provincial Council thereof shall bo divided into Eighteen Districts to be named as follows:— 1. The City of Christchurch 2. The Town of Lyttelton 3. Town of Kaiapoi 4. The Kaiapoi Country District 5. The Avon District. 6. The Heathcote District 7. The Port Victoria .District 8. The Town of Akaroa 9. The Akaroa Country District 10. The Bays' District 11. The Oxford District 12. The Sefton District 13. The Rakaia District 14. The Ashburton District 15. The Orari District. 16. Tho Waitangi District 17- The Mackenzie District 18. The Town of Timaru And the boundaries of the said Districts shall be those particularly described in the schedule hereunto annexed. 4. The Provincial Council shall consist of Members and the number of Members to be elected for each of the said several Districts shall be as follows:— 1. For the City of Christchurch four Members 2. For tho Town of Lyttelton four Members 3. For the Town of Kaiapoi one Member 4. For the Kaiapoi Country District 2 Members 5. For the Avon District four Members 6. For the Heathcote District four Members 7. For Port; Victoria District two Members. 8. For the Town of Akaroa one Member 9. For the Akaroa District one Member 10. For the Bays' Disirict one Member 11. For the Oxford District one Member 12. For the Sefton District two Members 13. For the Rakaia District one Member H. For the Ashburton District one Member 15. For the Orari District one Member 16. For the Waitangi District one Member 17. For the Mackenzie District ore Member 18. For the Town of Timaru one Member o. This Ordinance shall come into operation on a % on which it shall receive the Governor's assent to "c named by the Superintendent by Proclamation in the < Government Gazette' of the said Province. SCHEDULE. BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DISTRICTS. *• The City of Christchurch comprises the site of the Town of Christchurch together with all thc adjacent reserves lying between thc snid town and the rural sections fronting upon such reserves. -• The Town of Lyttelton comprises the site of the Town of Lyttelton including the town reserve. «»• The Town of Kaiapoi comprises the site of the f Town of Kniapoi as described in the Schedule to " f the " Kaiapoi Town Ordinance, Sess. viii, No. 7. 4 - The Kaiapoi Country District comprises all that portion of the Province of Canterbury bounded on the north by the south bank of the River Ashley on the south by the south bank of
the River Courtenay or Waimakariri and a line drawn from trig, pole c 19 on the south bank of that river to trig, pole o 27 on the sea coast on tke east by the sea coast on the west by a line drawn due north and soutli through trig, pole c 29 on the said River Courtenay except the town of Kaiapoi hereinbefore described. 5. The Avon District comprises all that portion of the Province bounded on the north by the south boundary of the Kaiapoi District ou the east by the sea cost on the west by a line drawn due nortli and south through trig, pole c 29 on the south bank of the River Courtenay and on the south by the nortli bank of the River Avon from its mouth to the point where it meets the boundary of the Town of Christchurch District the boundary of that district as far as the southeast corner of rural section No. 10 by the south boundary of section No. 10 the southeast boundary of section No. 145 till it is crossed by a creek running easterly into the River Heathcote, thence along that creek till it meets a line in continuation of the south-eastern boundary line of section 180 the south boundaries of sections Nos 180 211 240 337 and 234 and the north side of the road on the south boundaries of those sections continued to the point where that road first meets a branch of the River Heathcote and a straight line drawn from that point due west until it meets the west boundary of the district. 6. The Heathcote District comprises all that portion of the Province bounded on the north by the Avon District and the Town of Christchurch District on the west by a line drawn due north and south through the trig, pole c. 29 before mentioned on the south by the ridge of hills from the flag-staff on Mount Pleasant to the highest of the peaks called Cooper's Knobs and by a straight line drawn from the last mentioned peak to the point where the River Halswell meets Lake Ellesmere and by the north shore of that Lake till it is met by the west boundary of the district and on the east by a stiaight line from the flag-staff on Mount Pleasant to the point where the Ferry Road crosses the River Heathcote at the old Ferry and the 3hore and the estuary to its mouth. 7. The Port Victoria District comprises all that portion of the Province included between the coasts of the sea Lake Forsythe and Lake Ellesmere the Heethcote District hereinbefore defined the Akaroa Country District and the Bays' District hereinafter defined. 8. The Town of Akaroa as set forth in a Proclamation issued by his Excellency the LieutenantGovernor of New Munster dated the Bth day of Anvil 1851 and published in ' The Government Gazette' dated the llth day of April 1851. 9. Akaroa Country District—The remaining portion of the former Akaroa District save and except the Bays' District and the Town of Akaroa.
10. Bays' District bounded on the westward by thc Port Victoria District on the northward and eastward by the sea coast on the southward by a line from a point where the south boundary of Run 364 is crossed by the eastern boundary of the Port Victoria District from thence to the junction of the roads at the finger-post thence southeasterly to the summit of the ridge dividing Akaroa from Little Akaroa and from thence in a direct line to Putakolo Head. 11. Oxford District—Bounded on thc north-east-ward by the south bank of the Ashley to where it issues from Harewood Forest from thence to PaketirakvT on the eastward by the Kaiapoi District on the south-westward by tho south bank of the Waimakariri and on the north-westward by a line from the head of the Waimakariri to Paketirake. 12. Sefton District—That portion oF the province formerly called the Ashley District not including the Oxford District. 13. Rakaia District—Bounded on the northward and north-eastward by the Oxford and Sefton Districts on the eastward by the Avon Heathcote and Port Victoria Districts on the south-eastward by the sea and on the south-westward pnd southward by the south bank of Rakaia and its source northwest of Godlcy Peak thence by a direct line due west to the West Coast near Abut Head. 14. Ashburton district bounded on the north by the Rakaia District on the south-east by the sea on the south-west by the north bank of the Rangitata to its source thence by a line drawn due west to the West Coast passing through the summit of Mount Cook. 15. Orari District between the Rungitatf and the south bank of the Opihi rivers bounded on the north by the north bank of the Rangitata, to its north-western source on the east by the sea on the south by the south bank of the Opihi to its source near Burkes Pass and thence to the summit of Burkes Pass on the west by a line following the summit of the range from Burkes Pass to the source of the Rangitata. 16. Waitangi District between the Opihi and Waitaki Rivers bounded on the north by the south bank of the Opihi River and from thence by the line to the summit of Burkes Pass on
the east by the sea on the south by the centre of the main stream of the Waitaki on the west by the Hakateramea River to its source thence by a line through the Hakateramea Pass and Mackenzie Pass to Burkes pass. 17. Mackenzie District bounded on thc east by the two Districts last described on the south by the boundary of the Province of Otago on the westward by the sea coast and on the north by the Ashburton District 18. Town of Timaru bounded on the north-east-ward and eastward by thc sea coast from Pohatukoko or Whaling Station Creek to Seal Creek on the westward by tho eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 1606 707 the western side of the Grey Road till it meets the road south of Rural Section 965 on thc southward by the northern boundaries of Rural Sections 1607 1706 and the northern side of tho road through the lastmentioned section the cemetery and Rural Sections 2367 and 1702 and on the south-east-ward by tho General Government Reserve numbered 102 in red.
