FOOD SHOPS
Sir, —It is pleasing to notice that the new health inspector is giving close attention to food premises in the district. It is to be hoped that he includes eating houses in his survey as well. As a comparative new arrival in Whakatane who, while waiting for two years for a house, had ample opportunity of sampling the fare at each and every eating house within the town, I feel I am fully able to express an opinion. To say the least, some of the food served up was mediocre in quality, and the manner of serving it was sufficient to make the food anything but appertising. However my main complaint deals with the hours of serving meals in Whakatane. At present they seem to be fixed to please the proprietors, and not the patrons, as anyone who arrives in the town on a Sunday can testify. It is to be hoped that the inspector will look into this matter also. Yours etc., FED UP. Whakatane, August 23. (The report published to food shops in the County only. Ed.)
