Citizens’ Assn. Will Discuss Election
A general meeting of the Whakatane Citizens’ Association will be called to discuss the support of candidates in the November municipal elections.
The association favours the proposed Community Centre War Memorial and will give active support to the movement. These decisions were made at-<a meeting of the committee on Tuesday night. Mr L. C. Richards presided, the following members being present:—Mrs W. L. Petty, Messrs C. Sharman, B. Kemp, G. A. Washer, A. J. Atkinson, Mr G. Washer Jnr. (acting secretary), and F. McCallion (vice-president). A discussion took place on the proposed Community Centre and it was resolved to support the scheme and take a part in the campaign to raise the necessary funds. Appreciation was expressed of the action of the Winter Show Association in offering generous assistance to get the scheme established. A short discussion arose on the question of supporting candidates at the forthcoming local body elections and it was agreed to call a general meeting of members of the association in the near future.
Eight new members were elected to the association.
