PLUNKET SOCIETY HAS HAD MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR

During the past year further progress has been made in Plunket work in this district, stated the president, Mrs J. B. Roach, in her report to be presented to the annual meeting of the Whakatane Plunket Society tomorrow. A sub-branch has been formed at Matata and was already showing-a sound financial position and much enthusiasm by their members.

“Our membership continues to grow and the attendance at preschool clinics has been good. In the past 18 months the Branch has had many changes in nursing staff but every effort is being made to secure a permanent second Sister,” Mrs Roach states.

“We are pleased to report that Sister Armstrong, who has had 8 months’ leave of absence due to illhealth has resumed duty and we feel sure that mothers throughout the district, to whom she is so well known, will join with the committee in wishing her lasting good health.”

Mrs Roach expresses appreciation to the public for their response to efforts to raise funds. The street collection and stall held in December realised £BS. The annual garden party, this year held at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. A. Suckling, together with the house-to-house collection further augmented the funds to the extent of over £ll2. A used clothing stall was held in August, the satisfactory sum of approximately £75 being raised. A canteen was held at a bonfire on November 5 and despite the wet night proved a success. Out of the proceeds of a dressed doll competition held early in the year, a donation of £lO was made to the Karitane Hospital, the balance of £8 being spent on furnishing improvements in the Plunket rooms. “I wish to thank my committee for their co-operation and willingness to assist at all times, also all honorary officers for the valuable work done by them throughout the year,” Mrs Roach concludes her'report.
