Galatea W.I. Holds Its Meeting

Mrs W. Black presided over a fair attendance of members at a meeting of the Galatea Women’s Institute.

Mrs R. Nettleton agreed to teach dressmaking to members, beginning in about a month’s time.

An impromptu debate on hire purchase, with Mesdames W. Black, R. Mannington and I. MacDonald in the affirmative, and Mesdames B. Payne, F. Rogers and D. McNair in the negative, resulted in a tie. It was decided to enquire about demonstrators and it was hoped to have a full day in the near future. Results of the month’s competitions were: Flower head, Mrs Cawte 1, Mrs Gear 2, Mrs Pratt 3; single bloom, Mrs Yager 1, Mrs. Cawte 2, Mrs Creamer 3; sugar bag article, Mrs Gear 1, Mrs Cawte 2. Mrs Vegar 3.

The rolling shilling was won by Mrs Lane. Hostesses were Mesdames Wooller, Neilson and Pratt.
