LARGE ENTRIES AT COMBINED PIG & CATTLE SALE

Large entries were received by the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency for the first pig sale to be conducted at Te Teko in conjunction with sales of cattle last week. Entries in the pig section were in excess of 300 head and the attendance, competition and buoyant prices throughout the sale more than justified the conviction that this additional market will be a beneficial service to the farmers and buyers in the district. Cattle were yarded in large numbers and included am offering of station stock- which attracted many outside buyers. Prices obtained in the station cattle line were well in accord with those prevailing in other centres, whilst in the Jersey fat and boner section values realised were on a par with recent quotations elsewhere.

Dairy cattle were harder to dispose of in view of feed and weather conditions, forward sorts selling very well, but backward and inferior lines were not in demand. Prices realised were:—

Pigs: Baconers, £5 12s to £7 Is; porkers, £4 14s to £5 10s; heavy stores, £4 to £5 4s; light stores, £2 19s to £3 18s; w.eaners, £2 4s to £2 18s; in pig sows, £lO 10s to £l7. Cattle: Forward P.A. and Hereford bullocks, £l9; 2 year P.A. steers, £l4 9s to £ls 6s; P.A. and Hereford cows, £ll 15s to £l3 2s; Jersey fats, £7 12s to £ls 12s 6d; boners, £4 5s to £7 2s 6d; dairy, £lO 10s to £26.
