INDOOR BOWLING CENTRE FORMED AT WHAKATANE
A representative section of indoor bowling enthusiasts attended a meeting convened by Mr J. D. Rivett in the St John Hall, Whakatane, this week, for the purpose of forming an Indoor Bowling Centre at Whakatane. After some discussion it was decided to form a sub-centre to Rotorua to be known as the “Eastern Sub-Centre of the Bay of Plenty Indoor Bowling Centre of New Zealand (Inc).” Mr A. H. Gleeson, president of the Rotorua Centre, was present and did much to assist the new subcentre with advice and practical suggestions. There are already about 200 members in the district, and if Opotiki joins this figure should be almost doubled. An all-day open tournament is being organised by the new Centre and will be played in the Whakatane Winter Show Buildings some time during the next month. All Indoor Bowling Clubs in the district are being invited to take part. Registration to the Sub-Centre has been fixed at 5s per club of ten members, with a capitation fee of 6d per member. Apologies were received from Thornton, Edgecumbe Druids and Awakeri Clubs. Officers elected:—
Patron, Mr H. G. Warren; president, Mr J. D. Rivett; vice-presi-dents, Messrs E. J. Ramson and H. Moen; treasurer, Mr F. Bush; auditor, Mr Warren; secretary, Mr A. W. Mclntosh; executive committee, Messrs G. Attwood (Taneatua). W. Smith, C. R. Coates, A. J. Atkinson, W. Smyth and H. L. Drube (Whakatane); delegates to represent Sub-Centre, Messrs Rivett and Ramson; match committee, Messrs Attwood, Drube, Coates and W. J. Rivett.
