Births Decrease

Births showed a decrease at Whakatane during July compared with the corresponding month last year. It was a sharp drop from 37 to 23. Deaths decreased from six to five while marriages went up from one to six. Early Decision Wanted

The position of the deep sea port for the Bay of Plenty is troubling the TaUranga Harbour Board, who are keen to know where it is going to go. At their last meeting it was decided to approach the Minister of Works for an early decision through the Hon. F. W. Doidge.

Rangitaiki Rainfall A total rainfall of 2.97 inches was recorded on the Rangitaiki Plains last month. Rain fell over six days, the heaviest being 1.79 inches on July 1. So far this year the Plains has registered 33.48 inches, making the average fall for the first seven months over the last ten years 35.087 inches. The average fall for July over the last ten years has been 5.77 inches.

Handbook For Committees A decision to circulate the Education Department’s handbook for the guidance of school committee members has been made by the Auckland Education Board. The .board at its last meeting greeted the handbook with a mixed reception. It was also decided that copies of the board’s by-laws be circulated with the handbqok, pointing out that the by-laws take precedence over the booklet.
