Boys’ Brigade Camp On Whale Island
On Saturday over 40 boys who had been attending the 7-day Boys’ Brigade camp on Whale Island returned to Whakatane, looking fit and lively after their week under canvas. The camp included boys from Tauranga, Opotiki, Taneatua and Whakatane Companies of the Brigade. Camp commandant was Capt Te Hira Ferguson and camp adjutant Capt J. Phillips, of xauranga. Cpl Rod Mclntosh was camp sergeant-major, and Cpl N. Moore quartermaster. . The boys took turns at cooking fatigues, and most of them made a good job of it. Fresh goat meat a la hangi proved a tasty dish, closely approached by stewed goat. Climbing, exploring, fishing and bathing in the hot pools whiled away the pleasant hours. ~
School Resumes The first term of 1950 for Primary Schools in the Bay of Plenty commenced this morning and in most cases schools had increased rolls. The Whakatane Primary School started its first year as a separate unit from the Whakatane High School. Secondary schools will resume next Monday.
