Local District Pony Club Riders Placed At Tauranga
Though the opposition was stiff, the Whakatane District Pony Club riders who went to the Pony Club gymkhana at Tauranga on Saturday put up a good performance. Stacked up against experienced members of Waikato Clubs who were camped at Tauranga racecourse, they did well to pull off a first, a second, a third, and a win in a heat. Placed riders from this district: R. Magee (Thornton-Matata) first in a flat riding class, F. Miller (White Pine Bush) second over hurdles, Janet Davis (White Pine Bush) third over hurdles and Ray Reid, first in a heat of the flag race. The relay team put up a good performance, but ran unplaced. Experience gained should be valuable this coming Saturday when the Whakatane Club stages its first annual gymkhana. All classes of riders, including the beginners, are catered for in a well-planned programme, and riders in all ches have been putting in quite a lot of extra practice to be sure of putting on a show worthy of the public attendance that is anticipated. The judge is to be Mr Binsley, of the Morrinsville Pony Club,, a man with a wide experience of horsemanship and an intimate knowledge of the niceties of Pony Club style.'
