Gales Interrupt Power Supply

Strong winds reaching gale force at times whipped across the Rangitaiki Plains from the south west in the early hours of yesterday morning. Trees and tall shrubs received a battering and some wireless aerials were brought down but no serious damage was reported. Whakatane appeared to escape the full brunt of the blow but many residents were awakened by particularly severe gusts at about 3 a.m.

At about 2.45 a.m. the power was interrupted to the borough for a short time from the Edgecumbe sub-station. It was off for about five minutes, the cause thought to -have been flying bark. No other power faults were repotted and the telegraph department reported no interruptions in their services.
