Licences Wanted By Farmers To Drive Tractors On Roads
A remit that Federated Farmers approach the Transport Department tc- have private car drivers' licences made to cover the driving of a farm tractor on roads, was suppprted at a meeting in Whakatane of the exe-l cutive of the Bay of Plenty Province of the federation.
The remit was from Te Puke, whose delegate, Mr J. Riddeli, said that anyone licenced'to drive a car was\ able to drive a tractor. The ruling that a person must have a licence to drive a< tractor on roads applied all over New Zealand. Mr C. P. Wylde CWaimana) said he believed the Transport Department was anxious to rectify the position. • • ; '
Mr Riddell added that it would be more, convenient for farmers to be able to secure a licence private cars to enable them ot drive farm tractors on the roads. Th:j main-fact to be considered was that a farmer not covered by his driving licence was, in .the event of an accident,' in serious difficulties.
