MEAT PRICES
gi r> iam sure you would like to be able to record that, following publication of the list of authorised meat prices for this month,, local prices tallied in all cases with those figures. But there still seems some confusion, and one hears of some ingenious explanations. One was that the list was from an old price order, arid that meat had gone up since then (caitainly I have known meat go so high that even a vulture would hiccough at it). Another bright yarn was that freezing or chilling contracts the meat, but you really have the right amount. (I believe that excuse was made concerning a piece of tripe. How apt!)
However, Whakatane has been described as “a friendly little town” —in which the established order of things must not be disturbed. Housewives and others who have to budget on a fixed income would like to know the answers.
