FARMING MATTERS.

Sir, —A correspondent sent me „ a cutting from your issue of the 16th May, a letter signed "Wm. I. Wal-» lace" whose name is as entirely unfamiliar in connection with doing anything for farmers as the substance of his letter shows he is un-> familiar with what the Union has done. Government has not done all that the Union has recommended, nor is the Union the bargaining body of either dairying or sheep interests, both of which have their own sets-up, but it has been Union action that set the bali rolling for every price ri»e there has been, and every advantage to the industry. The plain facts are that dairying in particular is suffering, from the original guaranteed price being onequarter short, that the. maligned "leaders" could not get support from a rank and file that had been throiigh the slump, supported the Labour Government and is now looking (particularly those who were most guilty) for some scapegoat. Those who did something themselves are alone in a position to criticise others who did their bestMost growling is coming from persons and districts that have been notorious: as unhelpful to dairying since farmers own control of their industry was smashed by propriet-ary-cum-political forces. It looks, like the same old game. Yours etc., A. E. ROBINSON; Provincial Secretary. J. Ditchficld. After holding letter under the heading 'Christianity' we feel that we would be. departing from our sei'vice as a news me-*

dium by permitting it to go to. press. The inevitable controversy which it would provoke would not it is considered be in the best interests of a community where everyone, is entitled to their own views on the subject of. religion, and where the mat" ter has not previously been permitted to become a topic /of newspaper correspendence. We holding the letter pending your decision as to whether it should be returned or handed on to the correspondent W. I. Wallace. Ed.
