BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY

RESIDENTS in the vicinity, claim that the old dam, originally erected to supply Whakatane with electric power, across the Karuponga stream near Te Teko, would be an admirable source of fresh water supply for the Borough of Whakatane. Here is a never-failing source of water of proven purity with a drop of at least 300 feet to the Plains level. Already it is impounded, and awaits only the piping away across the Plains, which could be served on the way to Whakatane some 22 miles to the east. The question of whether or not the cost of piping the supply would offset - the vah*e of the venture is the main point at issue but certainly the proposal is well worthy of examination and careful thought.
