MUST IT REMAIN THERE?
PERHAPS it is because Whakatane residents have become so accustomed to it its passes unnoticed;
or perhaps when we have sustained the initial jar occasioned by its presence we have paid so little attention to the appearance of our town that we just didn't care I We refer to the large hoarding advertising a well known motor spirit, on the face of the escarpment overlooking Commerce Street. Is it necessary for every visitor to the town to have: to point out its unsightliness, uselessness and disfiguring propensities before we finally lay the axe, start a fire or stage a bomb practice to obliterate its offending* presence. Here is something which though perhaps it has the attentions of the Chamber of Commerce hitherto, would win it endless gratitude from hundreds, to whom this slash of colour on the green uniformity of the: cliffs is nothing but an eyesore and a nuisance
