TAURANGA ELECTORATE

ANNUAL MLUTING OF BRANCHES The annual meeting of the Tauranga Electorate was held in the Methodist Hall, Tauranga, before a large attendance the hall being filled to overJlciwing. Present at the meeting were Messrs F. W. Do id go andi W. J. Broadr foot, M.P.'s, together with; delegates from every branch of the Electorate from Katikati to the Rangitaiki and from Matamata. In presenting his annual report the President, Mr 11. J. Gill, mentoned that owing to Avar activities being the first consideration, there was not much activity in political matters, but members always retained a keen interest in the welfare of their party. During the latter part of last year, meetings were addressed toy: Messrs F. W. Doldge and W. J. Broad foot, M.P.'s, who received very enthusiastic hearings. The Leader cif, the Party, Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., also addressed a crowded audience, at Tauranga and was enthusiastically received. National Party rooms were secured in Devonport Road and occupied for a time, but with the advent of Japan entering the war, and the serious position in the Pacific, the rooms were closed. The position of the Party financially, was very satisfactory, and there appeared to be no difficulty in the electorate securing its quo.ta in the event of a general election. The candidature of Mr F. W.I Doidge, M.P., for the Tauranga Electorate was confirmed with enthusiasm. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr H. J. Gill (reelected); vice-president, Mr E, Hamblyn; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Y. Cameron; auditor, Albert Johnston; executive, the Rev. Mr Ranrkin, Messrs J. Auld, H. W. F. King, R. Cobbe, G. F. Washer, W. A. Carswell, R. R- O'Hara, G. McLeod, A. Johnston, R. Mann, W. C. Waterston, W. H. Hodgkins, R. H. Hardley, Chairman and Secretary of each branch and three; from the women's committee to be selected.

The meeting was addressed by Messrs F. W. Doidge and W. J. Broad-foot, M.P.'s, who revived a very cordial and enthusiastic hearing.
