KILLINGS TO MID-APRIL

The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from Ist October till April 18th, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers; Board, show that lamb killings to that date total 9,260,859 carcases, this being a decrease of 20,160 carcases compared with the killings to April 20 last season. Wether mutton killings are 696»134 carcases, and ewe mutton killings 1,735,125 carcases, compared with 506,619 and 1,312,322 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and the South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows: North Island Lamb 5,149,704 (5,046,615) Wether mutton 634,218 ( 450,802) Ewe mutton 1,079,119 ( 808.969) South Island Lamb 1,111,1;)5 (.>,234,101) Wether mutton 61.916 ( 55,817) Ewe mutton 6.>6,006 ( 113,353) Frozen beef production l is now 266,985 quarters compared with 368,941 quarters last season. Porker killings total 112,918 carcases, an increase of 19,479 whilst baeoners total 209,783 carcases, a decrease of 81,806.
