AHUWHENUA TROPHY
MOST SUCCESSFUL MAORI FARMER
PRESENTATION BY MINISTER
The Minister in Charge of Native Affairs, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, visited Opotiki on Friday last to present to the winner the Ahuwhenua Trophy for the most successful Maori farmer. The trophy was given by Lord Bledisloe when Governor General of New Zealand.
The presentation on Friday which took place at Omorumutu Pa was: attended by the usual large gathering of natives and pakchas.
Amongst those present were Sir Apirana and Lady Ngata, and their son Lieut. Willie N'gata, Mr and Mrs Matu Rangi (Gisborne).
The successful farmer was Mir Precl Amarumutu, while following the chief ceremony opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr L. H. Brown, head supervisor of the Bay: of Plenty Native Development Scheme.
