STRAIGHT TALK RE THE 'BLACKOUT'
SPEAKERS at the Chamber of Commerce made no secret of their very definite views on the subject of the townjs 'blackout' and it would even appear that there is some substance behind the declaration that Whakatane has had the worst end of the stick by a very wide margin, when compared with the restrictions enforced in other towns.- This being so a little relaxing of the present drastic measures and the infusion of more light into the gloom of our main street will be gre.eted with warm appreciation by the shop keepers and the public. The question is one which effects everybody and the arguments of Mr R. F. Smith were logical and sound. The discussion was therefore welcomed by all and it will at least bring the present dissatisfaction to a head and produce the official attitude towards Whakatane's obligations or its privileges.
