Mrs J. L. Harwood and Miss Havivood, of Palmerston ~ North, are spending a holiday in Whakatane ond are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. J. Canning, King Street.
Mr and Mrs' G. H. Burnett, of Fauranga, have been urgently called •South on account of their son, D'r. Leslie Burnett, who is dangerously ill. They left by the Express on Saturday night last. The latest hews of Dr Burnett is that he js holding his oAvn but his condition Js still grave. He is being attended by doctors from Wellington, Marton and Wanganui. His wife Dr Jessie Burnett is meantime conducting his practice.
Mr L. R. Brow r n, who for the past seven and a half years has been with the Native Lands Department in Whakatane, has received noticc of transfer to Hastings. When Mr Brown leaves in about one month's
time the town and district will be greatly the poorer by Ms departure. He has been exceedingly popular as president of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, as Troop Commander of the Wliakatane Home Guard Mounteds, as i member of the Pig Council and the Primary Production Council as welJ as in his position with his Department. Patriotic activities will also lose an energetic worker. Mr J. Flowers, of Hastings, will succeed Mr Brown at Whakatane.
