MAIZE CROPS
WEATHER FAVOURS HARVESTING s~ PLUCKING NEARING COMPLETION As far as the Native crops of maize in the Whakatane district are concerned it is anticipated that the harvesting will be completed without loss by early next week. Some of the crops left until the last for harvesting have suffered l slightly with the few d'ays of rough weather but not to the extent that will cauge any appreciable loss. The weather lias been very favcurable generally and the work completed rapidly by the local labour swelled in numbers by the importation of natives from the East Coast. No difficulty was experienced by the Native Department in cribbing their crops these facilities having been provided for early in the season. According to a member of the Department yesterday it appears thai 'he difficulties first feared regarding the European farmers' crops were overcome and the harvesting completed without many acres being abandoned. He ventured this opinion as a result of not having hud any enquiries for labour from the farmers.
