RACING NOTES
TRACKS WILL SUIT The English imported horse, Royal Star II who is nominated for the Waikato fixture, AvilJ be suited to the tracks which should iioav be quite devoid of sting, CHANGED HANDS The hurdler Rey Lu, is noAV running in the nomination of Mr W. S, Gooseman, M.P. The gelding is Well fonvard in respect to racing condition, and should be quite :i good Avinter proposition. ON THE IMPROVE A good performance Avas registered by Young Charles: in the Highweight at Waverlcy,. as he led all the Avay and scored comfortably. It AA r as his first appearance since Christmas and he should be all the better for the race. A GOOD WINTER SPRINTER Although Gold Money Song had been executing brilliant sprinting work at Takanini, he Avas not started at Pukekohe, Avhere, the dead track AA-ould have suited him admirably. DEFINITELY IMPROVING The Autopay gelding Sure Pay is now definitely on the) improve, and it should not before he again gets on the Av.inning list. He is a stable companion at Cambridge of Radiant Vaals and Balblair, who have Avon races recently. c AMIGO'S EARNINGS Amjgo might have Avon thq open sprint at Waverley but for receiving a check at the start, Avhile in the Besley Handicap he lost ground at the start through interference and ran out A-ery Avidc at the turn. The Beau Pere gelding lias iioav Avon close on £5000 for Mr L. G. Paul, who. bred both him and his dam Adorable. TOO BIG A TASK Although accepted for in the Waverley Steeplechase, Clarion Call,, allotted the load of 13.2 did not compete in the event. In any case hia chance, Avith the Aveight in heaA T v going Avould not have been a disr tinctly bright one. Interest Avilf now be taken as to Avhether lie aaIH take on the Steeplechase to be run at Te Rapa this Aveek. FOR WAIKATO The Canterbury mentor, G. RidgAvay, left on Saturday for Waikato with Streamline, Avinncr of the 1940 Great Northern Hurdles, and Arctic Dawn. The latter is bv DefoeAurora Borealis, and is expected to win more races on the flat before being relegated to the jumping department. After competing at T'.i Rapa they will be taken on to Ellerslie. GOOD WITH HURDLERS One of the most successful trainers of hurdlers in the Wellington province is Alf Wright, late of Foxton, but Avho has now transferred his team to Awapuni. The members thereof are Chat, Avinmer of the last Wellington Steeplechase, Hokumai, Haana, Haile Selassie, Game Pit and Hunter's Eve. The most fonvard of the lot are Chat, who is giving splendid displays of fast jumping, and the' recently purchased Gisborne horse Raana. NEARLY DUE The Foxbridge—Comedienne three year old Laughing Fox, Avith Avhich Mr W. S. Gooseman opened his racing account, has been racing unluckilj'. In his, first start at Rotorua he Avon, but Avas aftenvards placed second an account of boring. Since then he has registered placed performances, and Avas only beaten a head by Vaklene at Pukekohe. His Avinning turn should now be close at hand. THE WRONG WAY FOR HIM Surveyor-General, Avho has scored a long run of successes in Taranaki, disappointed his southern supporters by his E'llerslic and Avondale running. It is now stated that he failed to handle the right-handed going, so doubtless before he makes another northern trip his trainer will Avork him the wrong way round at least for a couple of Aveeks.
