KING STREET HALL
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S DECISION
NEGOTIATIONS FOR PURCHASE
j A, well, attended meeting of members of the Whakatane Caledonian Society decided last Monday evening to accept Mr F. Mahy's offeand purchase the King Street Hall as a going conccrn. The meeting which had been called to determine other matters of policy, w«»s probably the most rep resent a t'ive as far as Society members are concerned, within years. Chief J. W. Simons who presided outlined the proposal and dwelt upon the possibilities of the Society's progress if it were possible to stage special entertainments and programmes in their own ball 1 . The discussion which followed oc> I cupied over an hour and touched upon all aspects of the proposition. At the conclusion, it was, unanimously decided to proceed with the purchase of the property along the linesi suggested by the special subcommittee which has! beten, set up for the purpose. There will be a special drive for funds and in< response, to Chieftain W. Howat's offer to donate £5, providing tw T enty others were prepared to do likewise,, there no. less than seven offers received from those in the building. Other Scots laving in the, district but who wore prevented from attending,, will no doubt feel disposed tc assist in a similar manner and should get in, touch with the Chief or the secretary. The Society, which has made remarkable progress during the short time of its existence, can be depended upon to make a success of this latest venture in the same manner, that it has succeeded in establishing the popularity of its Inglesides, and equipping its first class band.
