Dance Postponed. The Western Drain Football Club was to have commenced this season's activities with a dance in the Awakeri Hall to-morrow night. However, with troops on leave the Farewell Committee wished to> entertain them at a similar function in the hall. The footballers therefore cancelled their arrangements and will hold their function later in the month.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Whakatane Caledonian Society on the common decision of its members to proceed with the negotiations to purchase the King Street Hall. As members pointed out last Monday evening it is their intention to bring about immediate improvements as soon as the transfer of the property has been completed. The hall will then serve as a permanent headquarters for the Society, its equipment and property, and the Pipe Band. As in the past the hall will be available for hire but there can be no doubt but that the functions of the Society will be set to a definite programme throughout the year.
Ohope Footpath. Speaking to ratepayers at Ohope on Monday night Mr H. G. Mo Cready pointed out that a considerable sum had been spent on making a footpath to ensure the safety of pedestrians. I,ti was unfortunate that this was not being used properly, the only ones using it being horsemen. However, he added this would be stopped as the inspector had been instructed to prosecute offenders.
