ETON COLLEGE
BIG ENGLISH PUBLIC SCHOOL NOT SO SWANKY NOW The "To Let" notice outskle one of thi boarding-houses of worldfamecl Eton College is but one of the many new indications; of imminent and revolutionary changes ahead of Britain's! public schools. Another pointer to more constructive. development is a recent announcement by the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr A. V. Alexander, that from. September, scholarships will admit poor boys to Dartmouth, exclusive echool for British naval officers. In fact, Britain's public school system, which has been repeatedly assailed! in the past for fostering class consciousness and monetary privilege, but which has hitherto survived, is to-day aimost ahead of public opinion in the open manner in which their headmasters and governors are now admitting the need for drastic changes in their system. Almost all are voicing their readiness to throw open the* hitherto closely guarded educational doors to boys with ability but slender purses.
