Whetu was ordered to pay Cadman's Parking Station £14 17s 7d forthwith, in default 14 days in the Whakatane gaol.
Telephone and Radio Appeal. Considerable confusion resulted when the telephone and Radio Appeal for Patriotic Funds was held recently. It had) been announced from commercial stations that the appeal would be held: and. only -i few days befoire the event the instructions were cancelled in the Auckland Province. In spite of this £18 4s 6d in donations was, telephoned to the local exchange. The reason for the arrangements being cancelled in the Auckland area was that the area had already obtained its full quota of funds, and. it was not desired that any further approach would be made until other districts had obtained their full ;;niouiits and perhaps another sepappear was' made'.
Danger to : Residents. Sportsmen, should' rejiiember ith'at tlio good days when shooting on Hillcrest was permitted! are now gone. That area is part of the Bor-i ough and residents of the area are concerned when tiiey see man about with guns. There are, many residienls now in that part of the town ant' with children about, shooting would be dangerous. No Doubt. Major Haueslcr was addressing the parado of Guardsmen, and Women's Auxiliary last Sunday and he complimented the Mounteds on their appearance. In doing so he stated*, "The Pipe Band should really be further back as they might scare the horses. It might not help much, however,, as other things than horses are scared by pipe bands." Liquor Breaches. At the local Court yesterday before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., Eru Rewlti otherwise known as Ned Davies was, charged with a breach oif a prohibition order at Te Teiko on April 5. He was frned £2 Avitn costs 19s. For supplying liquor to a, native Charles Savage was, fined £1 with costs £1 lis. Not so Comfortable. Those who have not worn kilts ("male we mean—the gentler sex probably knowing, all about it) might not bo aware of the fact,, but it is definitely correct that when one, sits on grass seeds have an annoying habit of becoming attached to ones exposed portions and worklug around a littLcv. Well the Pipe ?'and rested just prior to the- inspection. on Sunday last and then hurriedly fell in and rigidly at atient'or awaUed the Areia Command" approach. He was just handy when in a voice audible to ail band members the base drummer groaned "Say you chapsi, I have an army of Les Luxtcin's mechanise'd dandruff on me —it is travelling up my spine in low gear!" It is probable that if he had said this half an hour earlier the Commander wouldi have been greeted with a burst of Highland mirth instead of a rigid and military silence. Petrol Racket Discovered ? Investigations have led to the interesting discovery of an ultimate diestination for petrol' supplied, to farmers; as a starting fuel on kero-sene-powered tractors, the basts-of-'-eac tractors. The petrol has been issued on the basis of one gallon to 10 of kerosene, a fairly generous quota. Inquiries have, shown that in many cases the petrol issue has been exhausted, long before the kerosene has been used up. The inference has therefore been drawn by the authorities that a good proportion of the petrol has been finding its way into the tanks of farmers' cars as a weilcomei supplement to the | normal ration.. This practice will ! be checked by the new control, measures.
