BOROUGH AND COUNTY ELECTIONS
IT is now possible to glean some hint of what the ratepayers of the Borough and County have been thinking. All nominations have been closed and it appears that apart from a small election to be held in connection with the Borough representative on the Harbour Board, the town of Whakatane continues to slumber peacefully under the control of its previous municipal executive. But there is a different tale from the Coiinty, where the fate of four ridings hangs in the balance. However from the? amount of talk which had reached our ears and from the number of letters appearing in these columns, the limited contests are illuminating;. The decision by poll, is however something which dates back to the birth of British freedom and candidates for the public service have everything to be proud of in that they are exercising their right by tradition and showing their citizenship in their desire to be of use to their fellow men.
