YOUNG SWIMMER
CHILD OF FOUR SWIMS AT STATE CARNIVAL A doll from her grandmother, Mrs R. Mclvor, and an Easter egg from tlic N.S,,W. Women's Association were the prizes for four-year-old Meree Hyde, who, on a recent Saturday night, at Coogce, was the youngest swimmer ever to have competed at a State Association carnival. Merce had to be held up while awaiting the start, and was too small to stretch up to the top of the finishing board. "Meree loves the water and the trouble is not to get her in but to get her out of it," said Mrs Mclvor, who has been secretary of the Randwick and Coogee Swimming Club since its formation 19 years ago. "She rolls around in the water trying all the strokes, even backstroke. She has such an excellent kick that I am sure she is going to lvakc a champion backstroke swimmer, " Mrs Mclvor said. McTte, when three years old, was taught to swim by her grandfather, Mr Robert Mclvor, in his baths at Coogee. She can swim yards without effort. She spends all Saturday morning in the water and sleeps most of the afternoon.
