FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS
NEED FOR FURTHER FUNDS
CANVASS THIS WEEK
The Whakatane and District Soldiers' Farewell Committee at its meeting on Friday night appointed canvassers to cover the town in the appeal to bo held this week for money with which to farewell soldiers leaving for the front. The appointments Avery Jio follows:—•> North side of Strand: Mr B. 3. Barry. South side of Strand: Messrs Canning and Burgess. Square to Commercial Hotel. Messrs C. Kin&slcj-Smi th and J. W, Wilson. Commerce Slrect and Kopeopeo: Messrs S. S. Shapley and W. Henderson . Appeal to Country Residents. In conformity with the decision, of the committee the BEACON has great pleasure in opening a subscription list for the benefit of country residents. Donations may be forAvarded by post or made at the office betAveen the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The folloAving amounts are acknowledged-:—■ Whakatane Club 5 0 0 W. J.
