UTILISING GOLF COURSES

FOR INCREASED POOD PRODUCTION The Secretary for Scotland, MiThomas Johnson, announced recently that all golf courses in Scotland would be surveyed immediately as part of a plan to take over the maority of British golf courses for Tood production. If the courses are unsuitable for tillage and production they Avill be used for grazing. Mr Johnston has instructed the district agricultural committees making the survey to avoid, as far as possible, destruction of greens and bunkers. He stated that the decision had been dictated by "considerations of the gravest and most urgent national importance." Edinburgh golf authorities have estimated that the ploughing up of between 15 and 20 acres on an 18hole course should normallv leave the greater part of it available for play.
