GUARD AGAINST SURPRISE SCIENCE IN WARTIME Britain's natural scientists were prepared Avhen war came to turn their attention overnight from problems of peace to problems of war, says Dr. C. F. MacKenzie, President of the National Research Council of Canada, adding that "that fact today is our brightest hope." Since the Hist war, British natural scientists have maintained a research council, by means of Avhich they were able to bring together in an emergency experts in every field to work together in the Avar effort. With highly organised talent, Mr McKenzie said, "the British overnight solved the problem of the mag netic mine" and-were prepared to meet various forms of attack. "They will'not be surprised again, as they were by poisonous gas in the World War," he added.
