BAY OF PLENTY CRICKET TEAM SELECTION CRITICISED In a letter to the Rotorua Morning Post, the Secretary of the Te Puke Cricket Club criticises the selection of the team which represented the Bay of Plenty in the Hawke Cup match against Manawatu. The secretary, Mr A. W. Beale, wrote as follows:—• Sir, —Is the Rotorua Cricket Club the only one to be considered in the selection of Bay of Plenty representative teams? Nominations were called from various centres for game, and the only one to be considered, outside Rotorua, was Spring of Whakatane. Is that a fair deal to the rest of the Bay? On looking through the score book,, I see that four of the team chosen had scored only 3 between them,, against the Te Puke Club in the last two matches this season. As this ellub's eleven has been challenged tivice by Rotorua, and once by Whakatane and each time winning by a good margin, I think it is only right and proper that Te Puke should geS a little recognition, as on performances this season, one of the premier teams in the Bay, and by winning the Williams Cup, Ringer Cup and the Whenua and Dawson Cups in one season, has proved itself. I think the best thing, instead of calling it a "Bay of Plenty" team* to call it a "Rotorua team." Fo* 1 the next season It would be 'a good thing for cricket in the Bay to change the centre, say to Whakatane, then perhaps the "Bay" would get a deal mere consideration in the selection of representative teams.
