THAMES ANNUAL MEETING
GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED (By Zetland) The acceptances received for the first day's events at the Thames meeting are fully up to expectations and racing of a high standard is practically assured. The. rain over the week-end came at the right time to benefit the course, and obviated the necessity of watering operations in order to take the sting out of a hard surface. Class is well represented throughout, and the proceedings should go with a swing calculated to make the fixture highly enjoyable from the patrons' 1 point of view. 12.0—TRIAL HANDICAP Of £130: 6 furlongs. Merry Vaals 8.12, Royal Fawkes 8.10, White Foam 8.8, Hunter's Night, Bronze Emerald 8.7, True Measure, Flying Eagle, General Riske, First Gold Money 8.6, Mandalay, Mercury Bay, Wishacre, Lady Clorance, Miss Bridge, Kingcraft, Joy Vaals, Red Hawk, Whenua, Every Port 8.5. Maereana, Fast Wind 9.0. The Marumarua Hurdles, one mile and five furlongs, will bring out a good field of jumpers. The obstacles, known as brush hurdles, favour a fast pace, as they are not formidable in negotiation. Maxam 8.3, Brazen Bold, Bachelor King, Corato 7.10, Tosh, Lornacre 7.9, Foxmond 7.7, Anion, Miss Te Koura, Trilliarch, Mon Agr.e-7.0. Speed will be exhibited in the Flying Handicap, for with eleven contestants, all should have a good run. Even those not the best favoured in the send off will be enabled to take up good positions before the first tlarn is reached. The shape of the racing track may again suit the speedy Maxam, while Brazen Bold, if he quickly secures a position near the rails, will gallop fast. Foxmond has only to leave the barrier smartly to be hard to beat, and now in at the minimum Mon Acre is likely to run prominently.. There may be spirited support for Maxam Brazen Bold Foxmond 2AS—THAMES HACK CUP Of £200; 1 mile and 88yds.
