AMATEUR ATHLETICS

BAY OF PLENTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

MEETING AT WHAKATANE

At a meeting of the delegates of the Bay of Plenty Athletic Clubs in Te Puke on Tuesday evening, a full programme of championship events was drawn up and it was decided to divide this into three divisions to be run at the three centres in the Bay. The first meeting will be held at Whakatanc on Saturday, December 9, when the ladies' 75 yards, broad jump and shot putt; senior 100 yards 1 mile., broad jump and mile relay; junior 440 yards, broad jump and shot putt; senior cyclists 1 mile and junior half-mile will be decided. A number of handicap events will be added to make a full programme. Te Puke will send a strong team down which should compare more than favourably with those of other clubs. Competitors will include Miss Sommers (Tauranga) Waikato and Auckland champion, and New Zealand record holder for ladies discus. C. G. Goosman (Te Puke) Waikato 220 champion. K. Rowsell (Tauranga) Waikato 100 and 220vds junior champion. J. H. Wooler (Tauranga) Waikato champion cyclist. Whakatane although possessing no outstanding competitor has an evenly balanced team which can be count ed on to give a good account of themselves.
