TRAWLING AT OHOPE

Sir,—l would like to po'nt out to "idercly Interested ' that boat,s of 40 feet and under are permitted to i*se seine nets with anchor* down all along Ohope Beach with the exception of one mile circle off Kohi Point at Whakatane and two miles circle at Ohiwa Harbour. Hoping this wijl show that no laws are being infringed. Yours etc., FISHERMAN. (In the above connection Mr G. Wright owner* of the vessel seen at Ohope last Sunday has also paid a visit to the Editor, for the purpose of informing Monday's correspondent that he was in assuming that there was anything illegal in the ac. tions of the launch of which, he wrote. The regulations only apply to the two patches of water named by our other correspondent, and! actually do not apply to vessels of under 40ft. As the boat concerned was well under this length it does not come within the scope of the regulations in any way whatsoever. Mr Wright also contends' that ''Merely Interested 7 ' is wrong in his assumption that trawling in the bay will have a detrimental effect upon the line fishing. The fish that are netfeil he says are not the variety that will take the hook. Ed).
