OFFICIAL SECRECY

STATE HOUSING REQUIREMENTS

"That's no reply at all ' said the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry % when a letter was read to the Whakatanc Borough Council from the Director of State Housing saying that the department was negotiating for i'uither purchases of land in Whakntane, and that when matters weie finalised details would be submitted: to the council. Mr Barry said that the clerk had written asking .for some indication of the department's proposals. He had gone to quite a lot of trouble: to explain exactly what the council required, its reason being that itwas spending capital money from revenue on roading and power supply and could not carry on in that way. If it knew 12 months or so ahead what the department was doing it could make its arrangements accordingly.
