o— AICATANE CLUB FORMED LOCAL TEAMS A meeting was held in the Certtral Tearooms Whakatane on Monday night to form a hockey club. In his opening remarks as chair-f man.elcet Mr C. Free, ex-New Zea land representative made special re- 1 ference to the splendid interest shown by ,the young fellows. Hie prospects were that two complete teams would be fielded. Local competition was assured as Ruatoki and Rangitaiki were fielding strong teams, also competition is to be expected from Tauranga and Rotorua. The election of officers, resulted as follows: President, Mr C. Free; vicepresidents, Mr G. F. Thomas, Mr JJ. E. Cucksey, Mr A. A. Newman: patron, Mr C. Armstrong; secretary, treasurer, Mr H. O. Stewart; executive committee, Mr A. Barclay, Mr B. Johnson, Mr M. Carter, Mr T. DeLacey, Mr J. Wilson; delegates, Mr A. Barclay, Mr C. Free; selector and coach. Mr Free. It was decidcd that the club be called the Whakatane Hockey Club, and that the uniform should be blacK shirts, shorts and hose. Subscriptions were fixed at 5s per member and that travelling expenses should be the concern of.the player. If further funds were itcccssarv for the upkeep of the club; members could-overcome this difficulty by running dances. A member suggested that a senior and junior competition should be inaugurated, but this matter was left in the hands of the delegates to place before the forthcoming Association, meeting.
