WHAKATANE INGLESIDE

WITH KILT AND TARTAN

The ilasli ol' the kilt anil the skirt* of the pipes were the high lights of the Whakatane Caledonian Soeietyfs first Ingleside for the New Year when a large crowd of Heilanmonf and mony frae ayout the Tweed attended the King Street Hall last Friday evening. The event found warm! support from the local clans, the hall being well packed with members

and visitors.

In the absence of the chief, Chieftain Howat presided and welcomed all present to what lie remarket! would be a real Calodonian evening.

Mr and Mrs IJ. Cottrell and family of the Te Arolia Society wore introduced and given a warm reception.. A delightful programme of dancing and items followed all artists meeting with popular applause. Little Miss Marion Raymond was heard to distinct advantage in several sweetly rendered solos, while the' Misses Pafc and Cecily Cottrell provided two charming duets. The local lasses show ed themselves keen exponents in « number of Highland steps to bagpipe accompaniment.

Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr B. .Cottrell and members of » the Pipe Band.

Supper was served by a capable ladies committee alter which dancing continued till midnight, the gathering finally breaking up witii the singing of ''Auld Lang Syne.'*

Items during the evening were aS under:—Highland Fling, Misses J»i Howat, I. Martin. B. Ansel, and M. Armour. Waltz tap. Misses Isobet Martin and Shirley Bath. Tap dancing, Misses Ruby and Jean Howat.; Sean Triubhais, Miss Betty Ansel ci Song (duet), Misses Pat and Cecily Cottrell. Sword Dance, Miss ,'sohe2 Martin. Songs, Miss Marion mond.
