EXECUTIVE DECIDED NOT TO WRITE
"BAY OF PLENTY OFFERS BEST SITE FOR MILLS"
(Times Special Reporter)
The executive of the Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers, meeting at Whakatane, decided not to write to the directors of an English woollen mills firm, pointing out that the Bay of Plenty province was (he best site in New Zealand for the establishment of proposed woollen mills.
A suggestion that the firm should be approached in this direction was the basis of a remit from Oropi, which was lost.
The Oropi representative (Mr A. C. Youngman) suggested that Tauranga would provide a good site for the mills. Federated Farmers headquarters were very keen on woollen mills, which provided an opportunity to build up trade with the United States, remarked the president • (Mr S. A. Wells). The trouble with the present New Zealand mills was the acute staffing position. It took two of the staff today to do the work of one of the old staff. This position, he said, applied throughout New Zealand.
