SHORT CIRCUIT AT TE PUKE

A woman motorist in town at Te Puke was having trouble starting her car,. It seemed that there was little life in the battery. Seeing her plight, a passing male pedestrian offered to work the cranking handle. The woman sat in the driver's seat and watched the pedestrian, crank and crank and crank. To their joint disappointment} the engine showed no inclination to start. "Whew!" said the pedestrian, pausing from his cranking to consult the driver. Then he exclaimed affain, louder. "Why," he cried, "you haven't switched on the ignition." The woman smiled a little. "Yes," she* said. ."I know. It wastes the battery."
