ERECTION OF SUITABLE SIGNS
DIRECTION TO CONVENIENCES IN TAURANGA RESOLUTIONS PASSED BY CHAMBER There was so much travelling being done that there ought to be proper conveniences for both males and females in every town, said Mr F. N. Christian when moving that it be a recommendation to the Borough Council that suitable signs be erected with the aim of directing visitors to rest rooms and sanitary conveniences of Tauranga. The motion, passed at the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, included that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Automobile Association.
A further motion, also proposed by Mr Christian, that the attention of the Minister of Internal Affairs be drawn to the desirability of urging that suitable sanitary conveniences be made available in all boroughs and towns and that plain direction signs for these be erected, was carried. It was resolved at the previous meeting of the chamber that adequate announcement by bus drivers of the whereabouts of rest rooms on routes was desirable.
Mr Christian cited a place in the South Island where a blatant but communicative direction sign was erected in the approaches to the town, adding" that he considered such a sign should be made available at the corner of the Strand and Spring Street in Tauranga, and in Wharf Street. Mr A. M. Beetham (stationmaster), who was present, said he understood that a proposal was before the Borough Council for the erection of a building in front of the railway station.
