TAURANGA POWER BOARD
ENGINEER'S REPORT ON SHUTDOWNS ARRIVAL OF TEST OFFICIAL AWAITED
New service lines erected by the Tauranga Electric Power Board during the period from February 11 to March 14, 1949, totalled 57 while three others were increased in capacity. Reporting to the monthly meeting of the board, the engineer (Mr J. R. Bongard) stated that following the change-over of the northeastern part of Otumoetai from 3000 volt to 11,000 volt operation, the stepdown regulating transformer was moved from its location in Judea Road to a new site at Hinewa Road. Three- new distribution substations were erected at Oropi, Te Puna and Bush Road, Pongakawa. The area supplied from the Aongatete substation suffered a power failure of a few minutes duration on the evening of March 12 due to an outage on the 50 k.v. feeder.
On Friday, March 4, an arranged shutdown at the Te Puke substation occurred at midnight to enable the State-Hydro Department In carry out repairs. On Sunday, March 13, they carried out a considerable programme in the Anngatete and Waikino areas. This necessitated two short • shutdowns in the area supplied by Aongatete substation, one in the morning and mother in the afternoon. The latter one was of longer duration than was expected, the power not being restored until approximately 4.35 p.m. The engineer stated that the high tension ripple control test equipment had been unnacked, and set up in readiness for the test. Unfortunately, the arrival of the test engineer had been delayed, end it would be towards the end of the month before a start could be made.
