WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

HAIRINI-TAURANGA SOUTH BIRTHDAY PARTY

The sixteenth birthday party of the Hairini - Tauranga South Women's Institute was held recently in Hayman’s Hall. Mrs Woods welcomed over two hundred members and friends. Shoulder-sprays were presented to president, secretary and treasurer and many beautiful bouquets were presented by visiting Institute officers.

Members joined in the singing of Christinas Carols, these being followed by an elocutionary item by Mrs Mason. Mrs Laming sang a solo and Mrs Slow gave a musical monologue. A play entitled “Early Pit’’ was presented by Mesdames Johnston. Swinard, Mason, Laming. Iverson, Kenvig, Denniston and Slow.

The outstanding item on the programme was a Dutch song and dance presented by Mesdames Denniston. Carlton. Iverson. Lodge and Camhic and two small children, Leonie Iverson and Wendy Carlton, who caused much amusement when presenting a Dutch dance. During afternoon tea a small gift was presented to each person present. The lighting of the candles was carried out by the official hostesses. Mrs Woods deputising for Mrs Yco who was absent through illness.
