The fancy-dress ball sponsored by the Oropi Social Commutes proved very successful, although fancy costumes were definitely in the minority. The judges of tl\e costumes were Mr and Mrs McCready and prizes were awarded as follo" r s; Women most original: Mrs G. Vrncent (Santa Claus) 1. Miss Brogden (jockey) 2, Mrs Shanks (gipsy) 3. Men, most original, Mr F., Nolan (lady) 1. Mr A. Shanks (ballet dancer) 2, Mr D. Weightman (production) 3. Best group; Mr and Mrs D. Weightman as “increase" and “production.” Mr Scott was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was wen bv Mr and Mrs Anderson, and a Mexican Monte Carlo by Miss D. Jensen and Mr F. Parkinson. Two competitions for Christmas cakes were won by Mrs Gilsham and
Miss Olive Archer. A highlight of the evening was a performance by Mr BeL's Alsatian dog.
