TE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
Sir,—The spirit of general good will which prevails at Christmas gives us a passing but brief vision of what might be, when men and nations, forgetting their hatreds draw near to one another i r | friendship and peace; a united world family willing to share their j oys and sorrows with each other. At Christmas, time, human hearts reach out to others, and hand clasps hand in a friendliness that is only too rarely revealed.
There is a wondrous power m that sacred birthday, which enables us to pause foi a space and see each other as we really are, fellow travellers, passing but once through this world. Surely that is sufficient to bring us together in peace. Maybe the time is not far off when the gracious spirit of Christmas will be the unseen guest in every home, and be found in every place not for a brief season but all the year round. Then, indeed, will the voice of war be forever silenced, and the cries of hungry children be no longer heard.—l am. etc “WAR WEARY.”
