COMPETITIONS AT FAIRHAVEN

Arrangements for birthday celebrations in July'were made at the monthly meeting of the Fairhaven Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs Harding. Disappointment was expressed by members that the hall would not be enlarged for the occasion. A letter of thanks was received form the link institute in England, to whom cheese and fat had been sent. Thanks were also received from the Gisborne Institute for the parcel of clothes. A demonstration on smocking was given by Mrs Austin.

Tho hostesses for the day wcm Mesdames Crowley, Steel and F. Cheatham.

Winners of competitions were as follows: Biscuits, Mrs Harding 1, Mrs Munro 2. Mrs Edwards 3; mop, Mrs Higginson 1. Mrs Snow 2. Mrs MacFarlane 3; large bloom, Mcsdames Harding and Barnett equal 1. Mrs Mutton 2. Mrs Dixon 3: small bloom, Mrs Shudder 1, Mrs Wilhelm 2. Mrs 'Higginson 3; cluster, Mrs Higginson 1. Mi’s F. Cheetam 2, Mrs Harding 3; lucky number, Mrs Wat kin; written competition, Mrs Munro.
