YOUNG YACHTSMAN MISSING
SEARCH IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR
(P.A.)
Auckland, today
A 14-year-old boy is missing after leaving Islington Bay, Rangitoto Island, for Auckland in a Taurangaclass 7ft sailing boat at midday yesterday. He is Graham Brady, son of Mr J. R. Brady, of 19 Ngake Street, Orakei. The police launch, Lady Shirley was forced by rough seas to abandon a search last night.
A passenger in a launch noticed a boy in a small sailing boat near Brown's Island shortly after midday. Later, members of the crew of a naval launch reported seeing a small boat beached on Brown's Island. The police launch went to investigate but the sea was too rough for a landing to be made. The launch was to return to Brown's Island at 5 o'clock this morning.
The missing boat is painted white and has a figure "3" on the sail. It has buoyancy tanks and the occupant had a lifejacket.
